If you have wondered how to remove super glue on clothes, read on to find the secrets to success. Most glues can be removed from fabric relatively easily with the right methods.
It’s a shock when you see some spilled super glue on your clothing or shoes. But it’s often possible to remove super glue from fabric if you know how. Really, just a few household items are needed.
The best way to remove super glue from fabric is while the glue is still wet. Many times, super glue can be removed from jeans and other clothing by just using soap water. Immerse the garment in warm soapy water and scrub the affected area with an old washcloth or towel.
The same is true of most shoes. If you want to remove super glue from shoes, try putting them in a bowl of soapy water and scrubbing with an old toothbrush or something similar.
If the glue has already dried, you will need some other items. Gather a tool for scraping, some acetone or nail polish remover, and a clean cloth. The scraping tool should be clean and not too sharp so as not to cut or fray the fabric. The back edge of a butter knife or a spoon might work well.
To remove dried super glue from fabric, follow this procedure:
- Scrape away as much of the dried glue as possible with a spoon or knife edge. Use caution and don’t damage the fabric.
- If any residue remains, try using acetone. Remember to test a small amount of acetone on an inconspicuous part of the fabric, such as an inside seam or the very bottom of a shirt. Make sure the acetone does not fade the colour.
- If the fabric holds up to the acetone, soak a cotton ball or soft cloth in some acetone then apply it to the dried glue. Allow it to soak in and soften the glue for a few minutes. Then try scraping it again or scrubbing with a brush or clean dry cloth.
- Wash the item in the washing machine or in a sink with a small amount of laundry detergent.
