You can remove super glue from mirrors with these tips and tricks. Just follow the instructions below and restore your mirrors.
Super glue forms a tremendously strong bond with many materials. Nevertheless, it can be removed fairly easily from mirrors with some common products you likely already have around the house. With a bit of careful work, you won’t need to replace the mirror.
Super glue is, of course, easiest to remove before it has set. If you notice a bit of glue on the mirror when completing a project, wipe it away immediately with a disposable cloth or paper towel dampened with water. Then use a commercial glass cleaner to remove any residue.
If the glue has already dried, follow the steps below. First, gather the materials you’ll need for the project:
- soft cloth
- sponge
- water
- scraper – plastic is recommended to avoid scratching, a razor blade may be needed for particularly stubborn cases.
Here’s how to remove super glue from your mirror:
- Remove as much of the glue as you can with your fingernail or plastic scraper.
- Next, try some glass cleaner and a soft cloth to wipe away as much residue as possible.
- Follow up with a clean cloth and some water. Wipe the area in a circular motion and apply reasonable pressure to remove any leftover residue. Be careful not to break the mirror.
- Finish up by again cleaning the mirror with glass cleaner and a paper towel.
The above directions will remove super glue from most mirrors. If you have a very stubborn case, you might need to try a removal product to soften the glue.
Loctite Glue Remover will remove hardened glue from mirrors and many other surfaces. The gel formula allows you to place it directly on the dried glue rather than the surrounding area. It will soften the glue which can then be removed with a scraper. By the way: Loctite Glue Remover is also great for getting super glue off of accidentally bonded fingers!
Even better than removing glue is not getting it where it shouldn’t be in the first place. The right super glue and dispenser will make this a lot easier. Try Loctite Super Glue Control. This extremely versatile liquid glue dries fast and strong and will bond to most surfaces, including porcelain, metal, wood, plastic, and many more. The precision applicator and easy-grip dispenser lets you apply the glue exactly where you need it and avoid any spills.
